Mingo Falls, NC

Head into Cherokee on NC 19 and turn right onto NC 441 (Tsali Blvd) then another right onto Big Cove Rd.  You can also come in from the Blue Ridge Parkway and go left at 441 and then left on Big Cove Rd.  Follow Big Cove and when you pass KOA Campground look for the sign for Mingo Falls and turn right on Mingo Falls Bridge Rd.  Parking is up ahead.  The hike is 1/4 mile and the falls is around 150 feet high.

This is a really impressive waterfall with a very short hike.  The hike does however contain many steps, probably around 150.  The trail ends at a small wooden bridge at the front of the falls. When I visited on a weekend it was pretty crowded so you may want to go early or during the week.

I have read about a smaller waterfall above Mingo Falls and have seen some pictures of it too.  For a minute I thought I could make it up to it, but shortly after starting my climb I came crashing down to the ground.  My leg was cut up pretty badly and I had some scrapes on my arms.  However, I was more embarrassed than hurt as I got up to a crowd of people all staring at me.
